First Line Supervisor Certificate Program

Now that you are a supervisor, you have most likely developed the technical skills required in your field. Your continued success depends on the ability to effectively delegate and achieve goals. EKU’s supervision program develops your interpersonal skills or “people skills.” This certificate program is designed to offer a bridge between technical skills and supervising others to increase overall company productivity. Classes assist new supervisors, those without formal training, and workers striving for upward mobility to a supervisory role. There are two levels of training offered which include “Basic Supervision Certificate” and an “Advanced Supervision Certificate.”

BASIC SUPERVISION CERTIFICATE

The First Line Supervision Program begins with an 18-hour seminar (three (3) one-day classes), Basic Core Concepts I. Once completion of Basic Core Concepts I, participants may select an additional 18 hours (3 days) of elective seminars— six (6) hours of which may be computer classes.

ADVANCED SUPERVISION CERTIFICATE

Advanced Supervision is the second phase of the first line supervision program,18-hour seminar (3 one-day classes), and Advanced Core Concepts II. Completion of Advance Core Concepts II, enables participants to select an additional 18 hours of elective seminars—6 hours of which may be computer classes—for a total of 36 hours.

Leadership Excellence for Middle Managers

Leadership Excellence is a 70 hour high octane course that uses a variety of active‐learning strategies—exercises, role plays, videos, class discussions, and case projects—to promote application and long‐term retention of the knowledge and skills gained in the course.

Course topics will include: principles of human behavior, selecting & developing talent, performance management/coaching, power & influence, communication/oral presentations, human capital value & costing, leading teams & groups, leading in a multicultural world, managing change, accounting/finance and integrity & credibility.


Property Management Certificate

As a property management employee, you have most likely developed the technical skills required in your field. Your continued success now depends upon the ability to get things accomplished through others.

EKU’s Property Management Certificate Program helps develop your interpersonal skills or “people skills” area. The programs are designed to offer a bridge between technical skills and working with others to increase overall company performance. These class are helpful for employees at any level, who want to improve on their soft skills training that will be beneficial to them now and in the future.

The Basic Property Management Certificate Program begins with four 6 hour Core classes: Coaching and Workplace Communication, Effective Team Building, Time Management, and 5 S Training. Participants then select an additional 24 hours (4 days) of elective seminars—one topic may be a computer class—for a total of 48 hours.

The Advanced Property Management Certificate is the second phase of the program and consist of eight additional electives. This completes the Advanced Property Management Certificate for a total of 48 hours. The completion total for both certificates is 96 hours.


Distillery Warehouse Safety Certificate 

The Distillery Warehouse Safety Manager Certificate program was developed in collaboration with the Kentucky Distillers Association in 2020. This certificate program provides safety training on powered industrial trucks, hazardous communication, walking working surfaces, and lifting and ergonomics hazards with an emphasis on barrel handling.

The program also includes training on basic incident investigation procedures and analysis techniques, discussion of lockout/tagout procedures, and a brief overview of air monitoring, flammable vapors, and flammable liquids.

Students completing the full program will earn an OSHA 10 General Industry Card, as well as certificates in OSHA 7000, OSHA 7505 and the cumulative Distillery Warehouse Safety Manager Certificate


Supply Chain Management

CPIM provides training to manufacturing professionals on essential terminology, concepts, and strategies related to demand management, procurement and supplier planning, material requirements planning, capacity requirements planning, sales and operations planning, master scheduling, performance measurements, supplier relationships, quality control, and continuous improvement.

Preparatory courses for the Certification in Production & Inventory Management (CPIM)

  • (Module 1) Part I – Basics of Supply Chain Management
  • (Module 1) Part II – Strategic Management of Resources
  • (Module 2) Master Planning of Resources
  • (Module 3) Detailed Scheduling & Planning
  • (Module 4) Execution & Control of Operations

The completion of these modules, and passing the ASCM certification test, results in the nationally recognized CPIM certification. (Note: EKU does not provide official APICS certification.) Candidates must register online at www.ascm.org to obtain CPIM Certification, registration fees separate.

Construction Management

The Construction Management Certificate program is for individuals wishing to pursue careers in the construction field. Modules can be taken individually and a certificate of completion will be provided for each class. All five modules must be completed to earn the Fundamentals of Construction Management Certificate.

Continuing Education Units

Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) are awarded on the basis of one CEU to every ten contact hours of participation in a qualifying continuing education experience.

• Under the CEU system, each person participating in a qualified program has a permanent and confidential record on file listing the programs completed and accumulated units of credit

• For a fee of $8, a person may receive his/her cumulative record or have it sent at any time to an employer or person he/she designates (in writing).

• While the CEU is not intended to be equated with academic credit or applied towards an academic degree, many business firms and professions have recognized the CEU as a factor in considering persons for promotion, salary increases, transfers, etc.

Credit for Prior Learning

Portfolio Option

EKU offers various ways for students to earn academic credit for prior learning.  Students can assemble a portfolio for assessment of prior learning; this will determine how much college credit may be awarded.
